Jade knelt on the carpet in front of the open trunk with Stetson standing behind her, watching in silence. She picked up a red satin collar with ruby-colored ribbons and lace. It was obviously a BDSM collar. The silver O-ring had a small red bell attached to it that jingled when it moved.

“That was Lisa’s collar. She was my slave,” Stetson explained.

Jade felt a tinge of jealousy, but she tried not to let it show. “Has anyone worn it since?”

“No. I don’t recycle collars with new submissives. That would be like giving an ex-wife’s wedding ring to your new wife. It just isn’t done.”

It would be pretty crappy to wear a Dom’s collar that a previous slave of his had worn. Sorrow tugged at her heart when she realized she’d be willing to wear Lisa’s collar if it meant Stetson would want her.

Jade put the collar back in the chest and turned her attention to its other contents, trying not to let her eyes water too much. She picked up an album of pictures, hurting inside when she saw that they were pictures of him and Lisa. They looked so happy together. Was there ever really a time when Stetson had smiled on a regular basis?

Some of the photos were of vacation or day-to-day life, but there were some she could tell that had a power exchange flair. Nothing sexual, but Lisa was on her knees in front of him, both still clothed.

Damn it, why did she have to be attractive? The brunette had been curvy like Jade, but unlike Jade she’d looked to be older than Stetson, possibly in her thirties back when he’d been in his early twenties.

“Are you going to look through all of them?” Stetson asked.

“Yeah, I am,” Jade said coldly, feeling faint relief at the escape of closing the pain-inducing album once she finished. She picked up another photo album, but Stetson reached over and seized her wrist in a flash before she could open it.

“Not that one,” he objected.

“Why not?”

“It’s personal.”

A spike of anger pierced through her when she put the album back. Probably naked pictures of Lisa. Damn her and damn Stetson for loving her and doing raunchy naked things with another woman. Jade already knew he’d been with other people before her, but it sucked to think of him owning another woman as his slave, loving her and keeping pictures of her and other nostalgia after all these years.

Maybe she’d been wrong to think he didn’t mess around with women now because he feared touch. He might just not want anyone but Lisa. He’d rather be alone.

Jade’s eyes welled, but she silently commanded the telling mist to return to the ducts from whence it came. She wasn’t letting Stetson see her cry and pine after him.

An envelope that felt like it contained pictures was unsealed.

“Can I open this one or is it personal?” she bit out in a mellow tone that barely concealed her injury and annoyance.

He hesitated. “You can open it.
